Day in Day out

May 1, 2009

What’s up out there?
I thought a good way to start this little project is to give an account of what my day to day life consists of, from a “constructive”, “achieving” standpoint. That day to day I’m referring to may sound more familiar if I label it “Cube Life” “the Corporate Ladder” “9-5”, I’ve given it a less familiar name, “Hell on earth”. Now you may be saying, it can’t be that bad, you’re fully utilizing your college degree, beefing up that resume, making an honest paycheck, living comfortably in the city, but the true of the matter is, once you open your eyes, it is that bad! It’s horrible waking up day in day out knowing that you’re spending your limited time on earth doing something you’re not extremely excited and passionate about. So that leads me to the days run down. Now just bare with what I’m say, because for a lot of you I’m sure this sounds scarily reminiscent of your current (still in hell), past (have escapes the grips of slavery), or ideal (this could be incredibly valuable for you) situation.

7:15 – Wake up to alarm, rush into shower, grab a bunch of random food from the fridge, stuff in bag.
7:45 – Get picked up by friend; sit in traffic for an hour, park a mile from the office (this part isn’t bad because at least I’m still outside of work.
9:30 – Arrive at work soaking wet, get five comments from co-workers about opting out of the dryer, or taking a dip before work.

10:30 – Get the bulk of my morning work out of the way; sit in front of a monitor for a few hours waiting for e-mail or work. Still calming down from the excel induced ulcer created minutes earlier.

12:00 – Re-fill 8th cup of black tar office coffee for the day and already start looking at the clock.

1:00 – Lunch with friends, a nice reprieve from work, simply a reminder of what’s important and crucial.

2:00 – Process transfers, send wires, YouTube crack, blog articles read: 54….

4:00 – I get to leave in an hour, e-mail finally rush in, maybe 2 hours.

5:30 – Leave work and start the commute. All this would be great with some sense of accomplishment. Still waiting…

Now I know this doesn’t sound that terrible, I mean kids are dying in Darfur, but this brings me to the point of this experiment. The truth is, sure, going this route will be pretty easy ensuring comfort in a predetermined world, were I can go my whole life never worrying about money. The only problem to this is, while everything in life seems comfortable and placid, the scarifies for these luxuries is giving up a major portion of your time during the week, and during the weekend worrying about Monday, and never really get to decided truly how you spend you time. The dullness of this lifestyle lately has become more and more exciting as I’ve found myself finding enjoyment in the simpler things, and realizing that if I used my time to truly appreciate these elements of life everything would be better, So I’m calling out to you guys to start living the way you want.

Let’s call it overhaul USA.
When  you go for something that matters to you, you’ll find a way.
